Meet the Doctor
Dr. Chris Nelis, a graduate of Hope College and the University of Detroit Mercy School of Dentistry, brings a wealth of experience and expertise to his dental practice. His education at Detroit Mercy provided him with invaluable hands-on training in a top-tier clinical setting. Following dental school, Dr. Nelis completed a general practice residency at Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center in Chicago, IL where he gained advanced skills in oral surgery, dental implant placement, emergency medicine, special needs dentistry, and Invisalign® orthodontics and oral sleep appliances.Â
Raised in Zeeland, MI, Dr. Nelis and his wife, Lauren, are proud graduates of Zeeland East High School and Hope College. During his college years, Dr. Nelis was an integral member of the Hope Men's Basketball team, eventually serving as team captain. His athletic background instilled in him qualities of leadership, discipline, and teamwork, which he seamlessly integrates into his dental practice. These attributes, honed through years of competitive sports, have shaped his approach to patient care, emphasizing collaboration, dedication, and a commitment to achieving the best outcomes for his patients. Dr. Nelis's practice is a reflection of his belief in the power of teamwork and his dedication to providing exceptional patient care.
Personal
Although Dr. Nelis and his wife, Lauren, cherished their time spent in Royal Oak and Chicago, IL, they knew the environment of West Michigan was where they would want to raise their two children, Bennett and Rylee. Happily settled in this vibrant community, Dr. Nelis and his family are surrounded by friends and loved ones. They feel truly fortunate to call West Michigan home and are excited to serve and contribute to the well-being of the people in this great community.

Dr. Chris Nelis has committed himself to continuous education and professional development. This dedication ignited a passion for sleep dentistry. Quality sleep is a necessity for everyone, yet, most individuals still wake up unrested with chronic fatigue. We chalk this up to our busy lifestyle and fail to understand the long term effects this has on our overall well-being. Our ability to facilitate at-home testing for sleep apnea and effectively treat a chronic medical condition will change lives for the better. It is my goal to bridge the gap between oral and systemic health and add years to patients’ lives.
